My Desk Is 8-Bit / Stop Motion Video Game

"I recently found myself wondering what a video game might look like in the form of a stop motion animation. While a normal person's response to such a question would of course be "who gives a shit?" I possess few of the qualities typically associated with normalcy and was irrevocably compelled to find out. This is the result."

Starcraft 2 - Official Cinematic Trailer

I’m sure this has been stated…but this is practically spot on with the assembly from Iron Man… The movie Iron Man (1 & 2) might not been the greatest movies of man kind, how ever the assembly of his metal suite is simple awesomeness.

Probably the Best 3D Projection Mapping Ever - Samsung 3D LED

f you thought that last few projection mapping examples I posted were amazing, then check this out. Samsung have just run three nights of an amazing 3D projection mapping installation in Amsterdam to promote their new range of 3D LED TVs.

Perfectly mapped to a historic building in Amsterdam, the projection realistically cracks the building in half, sending debris shattering down before it fills up with water and then drains into a rain forest revealing the new Samsung 3D LED TV! While I've seen other attempted 3D perspectives, this certainly has to be the best 3D experience I've seen from Projection mapping!

Let's Colour Project

This weekend Euro RSCG London launched the Dulux ‘Let’s colour’ campaign with a TV advert celebrating colour in four cities around the world. The project is called ‘Dulux Walls’ and focuses on a series of painting events in the UK (Virginia Primary School, Tower Hamlets, London), France (Aulnay sous Bois, Paris), Brazil (Lapa, Rio de Janeiro) and India (Chandpole Chowki, Jodhpur).
The film was directed by award winning Director Adam Berg and highlights the journey of colour across the world as people and colour combine to regenerate public and private spaces.

Each local community was engaged to transfer dull and grey spaces into something more interesting using Dulux colour paint. Further events are scheduled to take place around the world in the near future as part of Dulux’s ambition to ‘add colour to people’s lives’. Further campaign information can be found on: http://www.letscolourproject.com/

Super 8 Official Trailer

JJ Abrams' new film 'Super 8' is in the works. Cooperating with Spielberg this time as well. Nothing is known about this film yet, but just like JJ Abrams style, clues are everywhere. Watch the trailer here. The teaser itself is littered with clues that leads to other things. Cloverfeild had one of the biggest viral advertising campaign in movie history, I have a feeling Super 8 will not let down. Let the mystery begin. Feel free to put any clues and things you find in the comments page. One thing I found already...the thing trying to come out at the end is actually Barbara Streisand.

Sweetest music video yet - FM Belfast track titled Underwear.

Directing Duo : Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan aka DANIELS, just released a music video for an FM Belfast track titled Underwear. “And all you need to make a music video are some friends and $40 of thrift store clothing.”

It features people dancing alone, sometimes in their underwear, sometimes a bit ugly, yet always confident. A very clever edit, the video plays with variable speeds and retiming to create a creepy feeling, along with several clever tricks including time displacement, match cuts, and puppeteering underwear.
Also provided is a behind the scenes video, be sure to check it out.

I have never wanted to learn CPR so badly. Seriously though, everything about this video was so well done. The colour treatment, cuts, graphics and even the type are perfect. Had to watch it twice to notice that stuff (was a little distracted by other elements the first play through).

The Google Job Experiment

When top advertising creative directors Googled themselves, they got a message from Brownstein asking for a job. Read more about the experiment here. Brownstein bought Google ad words for the creative directors' names, which cost him $6. "No one else was bidding on (the names)," he tells us, "so I got the top spot for like 10 cents a click." This got him interviews with everyone except Granger. And the rest is history.

Awesome Beautiful Time lapse from Eyjafjallajökull

Sean Stiegemeier saw all of the mediocre pictures of that volcano in Iceland nobody can pronounce the name of, so he figured he should go and do better. But the flights to get over took forever as expected. 4 days after leaving he finally made it, but the weather was terrible for another 4. Just before leaving it got pretty good for about a day and a half and this is what he managed to get. No lightning, no lava but still very very beautiful. Walk on water (Liquid Mountaineering)

Liquid Mountaineering is a new sport which is attempting to achieve what man has tried to do for centuries: walk on water. "Or to be more precise: running on water. We are developing the sport from scratch. By accident we found out that with the right water repellent equipment you can run across bodies of water, just like a stone skimming the surface." This is just to awesome! And probably the best viral of 2010 (so far!). Love it.

Awesome Google Chrome Speed Tests

Ok to be honest, I don't like Chrome. But this video makes me wanna like a little, tiny, bit more. I mean, it's faster than a potato! Thats like...fast. Anyways, awesome video presentation. These speed tests were filmed at actual web page rendering times. If you're interested in the technical details, read on!

"Why does allrecipes.com in the potato gun sequence appear at once, and not the text first and images second? And why does it appear to render from bottom of the screen to the top?"
Chrome sends the rendered page to the video card buffer all at once, which is why allrecipes.com appears at once, and not with the text first and images second. Chrome actually paints the page from top to bottom, but to eliminate a shadow from the driver board, we had to flip the monitor upside down and set the system preferences in Windows to rotate everything 180 degrees, resulting in the page appearing to render from bottom to top.

"Why does the top one third of the page appear first on the weather.com page load?"
Sometimes only half the buffer gets filled before the video card sends its buffer over to the LCD panel. This is because Chrome on Windows uses GDI to draw, which does not do v-sync.

"The screen wipes are so smooth - how was that achieved?"
The screen wipes up in a gradated wipe because LCD pixels take around 10ms to flip and gradually change color.

While we had a super fast 15Mbps internet connection in the studio, any live internet connection introduces quite a bit of variability. To run speed tests on page rendering times, saving locally and loading from the local disk can help reduce this variability.

For behind-the-scenes footage of how this video was made:
