Skoda Superb - Glass Harp

The Human Shuffle

"I spent about 30 minutes on Friday night on Chatroulette (very NSFW). You push the start button and you're instantly in a video chat with some random person. During my session, the average "chat" lasted about 5 seconds and I observed several people drinking malt liquor, two girls making out, many many guys who disconnected as soon as they saw I wasn't female, several girls who disconnected after seeing my face (but not before I caught the looks of disgust on theirs), 3 couples having sex, and 11 erect penises. In a Malkovichian moment, I was even connected to myself once...and then the other me quickly disconnected. In short, Chatroulette is pretty much the best site going on the internet right now."
- Jason Kottke

Awesome Clavilux 2000 – Interactive music visualization

The Clavilux 2000 is an interactive instrument for generative music visualization, which is able to generate a live visualization of any music played on a digital piano. The setting of the installation consists of three parts: A digital piano with 88 keys and midi output, a computer running a vvvv patch and a vertical projection above the keyboard.

All stripes stay and overlap each other in an additive way, so at the end a kind of pattern remains – a summary of the music – which will be always unique since the notes of the composition aswell as the interpretation of the piano player are influencing the outcome. Furthermore the piano player can switch between the standart 2d view and an additional 3d view of the visualization while playing.

Heavy Rain - The future of gaming

"I just got done playing through the demo and I was completely shocked. This game is simmilar to a movie and a book but is groudbreaking because you are able to interact with the story. Another aspect of this which is intressting is that every decesion made changes the plot of the whole game. Wow, Sony really has outdone themselves this time." – The Above

The whole idea revolves around that though the fashion has changed so much in those 50 years, the safety belt invented by Volvo fashion continues to this day. The campaign, called Safe and Style and is the creation of Memac Ogilvy & Mather Dubai.

Wow! Awesome 3D printing animation thingie

There's been a lot of talk about possible applications for 3D printing, but Johnny Kelly's new TV titles are the first time we've seen it used in animation. The title sequence is for Dutch TV programme Het Klokhuis (The Apple Core). Agency KesselsKramer commissioned Johnny Kelly and artist Jethro Haynes to collaborate and make this sequence which will air for the first time next week. "It was really interesting to collaborate with Jethro," Kelly tells us, "and we made the apple shapes using 3D printing which was very exciting, as I'd never tried this out before."

Social Media is Dead

"Don’t get me wrong I love Twitter, Linked-in and my blog they are ALL indispensible to my marketing efforts. What we need to do is clear away the social media BS that’s blinding people to the obvious truth that social media tools are just a new way to manage conversations to engage clients – its not rocket science – its for everybody. Its evolution and not revolution!" – Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp

Avatar's Augmented Reality Campaign

How good was Avatar? Every company known to man ran some sort of promotion to jump on the bandwagon, but this is just a little different. Mattel released an Augmented Reality Card with every single Avatar toy produced, all the characters, vehicles and creatures. The iTags as they have been named, come with different levels for interactivity – eg. a Character might be level 1 (gives you special information) while a vehicle might be level 2 (which gives you info plus live attack).
I think we will see a rush to this sort of additional interactivity / engagement from all sorts of products in 2010, and particularly in the toy / games industry – started late last year! See the full range of toys here

They're So Talented: Little Birds Playing Guitar

This is a video of little birds playing guitar as part of some wack-ass French art exhibit. For this installation in The Curve, Boursier-Mougenot creates a walk-though aviary for a flock of zebra finches, furnished with electric guitars and other musical instruments. As the birds go about their routine activities, perching on or feeding from the various pieces of equipment, they create a captivating, live soundscape. VIA

Sixthsense - a wearable gestural interface

With the miniaturization of computing devices that fit inside our pockets, we are always connected to the digital world. However, there is no link between our interaction with these digital devices and interaction with the physical world. 'WUW' bridges this gap by augmenting the physical world around us with digital information and proposing natural hand gestures as the mechanism to interact with that information. 'WUW' brings the intangible information out into the tangible world. By using a camera and a tiny projector mounted on a hat or coupled in a pendant like device, 'WUW' sees what you see and visually augments any surfaces or objects you are interacting with. 'WUW' projects information to any surface, walls, and the objects around us, and to interact with the information through natural hand gestures, arm movements, or with the object itself. Awesome gadget, awful music.
